A suburban restaurant chain specializing in salads, soups, sandwiches, and smoothies will soon expand into Downtown Newark.
The Salad House is planning to open a restaurant within the Walker House development at 540 Broad Street. The franchised location is expected to open by the beginning of this summer, according to company founder Joey Cioffi.
“We’re really excited to come into Newark,” Cioffi said in a phone interview, describing The Salad House’s upcoming location in the city as “coming full circle” for his family. Cioffi’s father used to own Tony’s Pizzeria in the Ironbound.
The Salad House was founded more than a decade ago in Millburn and currently has additional restaurants in Livingston, Montclair, Morristown, and Westfield. Other outposts are envisioned for Englewood, Red Bank, Ridgewood, and Sparta.
The Walker House location will be situated to the right of the building’s lobby on the Broad Street side. Official hours of operation have not yet been determined, but Cioffi said that they are aiming to be open seven days a week.
Located opposite Washington Park, the New Jersey Bell Headquarters Building was converted into Walker House three years ago. Apartments now take up much of the building where offices were once located.
