A historic property that dates to the 1800s will have the lights turned on once again as Landmark Hospitality is slated to open The Albion Summit in the coming days.
Situated at 570 Springfield Avenue in Summit, the former Grand Summit Hotel was originally built as the Blackburn House in 1868. Since the previous version’s closing, the renovated property now boasts a thoughtfully curated collection of amenities that include a critically acclaimed restaurant, co-working space, and state-of-the-art event spaces.
“Having been a part of the New Jersey community for the past 25 years, my wife Jeanne and I have long awaited the opportunity to introduce Landmark Hospitality and our hotel brand The Albion to Summit,” said Frank Cretella, Principal and Co-Owner of Landmark Hospitality. “The Albion Summit is more than a hotel; it’s a celebration of history with a modern twist. We’ve meticulously restored the building’s original charm while introducing innovative features to create a space that caters to the needs of today’s travelers and local residents.”
The Albion Summit is set to offer a full eatery that will be open to the public in the renowned Felina Restaurant. A 60-foot open kitchen highlights the space, while the restaurant’s dining room sports a fireplace, a 60-seat bar wrapped around a wine room, and a bar with a step-down design.
Highlights of the hotel’s renovation, which was undertaken by Black Dog Construction, include The Living Room, a light-filled co-working space featuring a self-serve coffee bar by The Muddy Cup. The spot transforms into a cocktail lounge in the evening and sports two private conference rooms.
The events hall at The Albion Summit has also been revamped but while maintaining its original stained-glass windows and two-story fireplace. Eight chandeliers used repurposed crystals from the hotel’s past ballroom.
Other notable features of the hotel’s revamp include an amphitheater-style movie theater complete with a concession stand, a sophisticated whiskey lounge with a cigar and spirits locker, and a private dining room in the wine cellar that offers an intimate setting.
The Albion Summit is set to open over the weekend, but the brand isn’t done working at the property just yet. An outpost of The Stork Club, a membership-based social space with an outpost in Jersey City, will be coming to the property, as will a spa, a Japanese listening room suite and a sushi restaurant, a recording and podcast suite run by The Stone Pony, and another 9,000 square foot event space.
There is already a second outpost of The Albion planned for a historic former bank in Downtown Jersey City, but that project has not yet gained approval amid some building height controversies. The application, also being undertaken by Landmark Hospitality, is slated to be heard by the city’s Zoning Board in October.
