A trailer without wheels that has been sitting on the sidewalk for several years now at 743 Grand Street in Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood will soon be home to the area’s latest food stand.
Steak Shack, not to be confused with the similarly named burger chain that is expanding into New Jersey, is coming to the corner of Harmon Street just a block away from Arlington Park and The Junction. According to Rising Tide Capital, the business will be operated by Alexandra Sartoga, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who has worked as a private chef for Bank of America.
Recently, the trailer was painted with the name of the business along with imagery of a lion, a cow, the Manhattan skyline, and the words “Garden Steaks,” the name of Sartoga’s catering business and an apparent play on New Jersey’s nickname. Benches that were built by GreenPen Investments were also installed at the site.
Previously, the stand contained a catering business and kitchen called The Scooter Girls along with a hot dog stand.
