A residential development in Newark that would exclusively serve senior citizens is in the early stages of the planning process.
The proposed five-story complex is envisioned for seven adjacent properties in the North Ward, including all of the parcels between 548 and 560-562 Broadway. The premises are located a few blocks west of Exit 4 on Route 21 and include houses along with a car dealership called Champion Auto Sales.
The developer, which simply goes by 560-562 Broadway, LLC, intends to construct 68 residential units, each of which would include one bedroom, according to a notice of hearing. There would also be a parking garage with 34 spaces.
State business filings show that 560-562 Broadway, LLC was incorporated out of Linden in 2015. The company is reportedly looking to be granted preliminary and final site plan approval with variances related to use, density, setback, yard coverage, lot coverage, trees, fencing, and parking in connection with this project.
Newarkers will get a chance to weigh in and learn more about these plans when they go before the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment. The notice says that a public Zoom meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, September 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment and other commissions are subject to change.
