18/8 Fine Men’s Salons, a Southern California-based chain of barber shops, is planning to open a location in the city’s Paulus Hook neighborhood. According to the company website, the salon will to be located within the recently completed 18 Park development at 18 Park Avenue, next to the Marin Boulevard Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Station, and will be the fifth 18/8 in New Jersey. There are currently locations in Bedminster, Closter, Livingston, and West Windsor, and another is planned for Morristown. The Jersey City salon is slated to hold a grand opening on Sunday, February 5th, according to a post by the business on its Yelp page.
Across town, a business selling hair extensions and wigs has already opened. A grand opening celebration was held in December for Head Honcho Hair, located at 206 Monticello Avenue in McGinley Square. The space was previously occupied by A&J Hair Salon.
Near the Hudson River waterfront, a local coffee shop is planning to open a new location. 9 Bar Cafe opened the doors to its first location along Erie Street in Downtown Jersey City in 2015, where it serves breakfast, lunch, lattes, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. Now, owner Stefania Cocozza tells Jersey Digs that its second will open soon at the new Jersey City Urby at Harborside development at 200 Greene Street. More details about the new 9 Bar Cafe will be revealed next week.
Meanwhile, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planning to open another fast food restaurant in the city. Levin Management reports that a 2,000 square foot franchise of the Atlanta, Georgia-based company is coming to the Twin City Shopping Center at 2-36 Garfield Avenue, near the Bayonne border. There are currently nine additional Popeyes locations throughout Hudson County. The shopping plaza was recently renovated, and many businesses have been replaced. The plaza’s namesake, Twin City Supermarket, is now Aqui Market, and Retro Fitness opened a location next door in 2015.
There will soon be a place in Jersey City for residents to take archery classes. Jersey City Archery is coming to the second floor of 7 Sherman Avenue, an industrial building in the middle of a residential neighborhood in The Heights. Classes start at $30, and will be offered daily. There will also be an after school shooting camp. According to the business website, a grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, February 4th, beginning at 5:00pm.
In addition, a new flooring showroom is coming to the city. SSJ Hardwood Flooring, LLC will hold a soft opening for its new 40 Forrest Street showroom on Saturday, February 11th. Construction is currently underway, according to the business Twitter account.
