This past Friday, The Shuster Group along with the Powerhouse Arts District Neighborhood Association held a booming block party for the Powerhouse neighborhood. The event, called City Nights, marked the return of the area’s block party after years of absence.
The party was held along First Street outside The Shuster Group’s The Oakman and The Art House communities. Alongside food and drink from local vendors were activities for all ages including large scale Connect Four and Jenga games, live painting, and musical and dance performances.
The crux of the event, however, was the unveiling of 10 curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, some of the first ever to be offered curbside, putting Jersey City on the forefront of the electric vehicle movement. Developed by Greenspot, a locally-based company that builds electric car charging infrastructure, the new charging stations are located outside The Oakman and The Art House.
Two of the charging stations are reserved for ‘Maven’, a car sharing program from General Motors which selected Jersey City as its first public location in the New York Metropolitan area. Maven will equip the stations with Chevrolet Volts, plug-in hybrid cars that will be available to reserve through its zero-membership fee mobile app.
Mayor Fulop, who spoke at the event, officially launched the program with a demo of the Maven technology. The entirely app-based service allows customers to reserve and unlock available cars at the touch of a button.
Also on display were BMW’s latest i-series cars. I-series is the company’s fully electric line that currently includes the i8 sports car and the more functional i3 city-sized sedan.
The event also marked The Shuster Group’s 15th year of operating in Jersey City. Eyal Shuster, of The Shuster Group, recalled it all started with a 4-family on Duncan Avenue 15 years ago. Fast forward to today and the company is now developing large-scale communities in Jersey City’s most desirable neighborhoods. Mayor Fulop called The Shuster Group, “a true Jersey City success story.”
