A mobile food vendor that has been a fixture at events throughout New Jersey will be opening their first brick-and-mortar restaurant as Lady G Bar & Grill should be launching soon in Jersey City.
For those uninitiated, the Lady G food truck specializes in handmade empanadas made fresh daily. Their unique and soulful concoctions include a lump crab and shrimp version or an oxtail dinner variety that blends the meat with collard greens and rice.
Jerk chicken, sausage and peppers, vegan curry, and even a cheesy mac empanada all adorn the menu at the food truck, which also serves a few dessert empanadas like a blueberry and cream treat or a banana pudding variety. Outside of the empanadas, chicken wings, fried chicken sandwiches, and a Friday fish fry have grown the truck’s popularity.
Lady G’s Empanadas have been a staple at events in Jersey City including the Mt. Carmel Feast and participated in the Juneteenth Festival at American Dream Mall in East Rutherford. They are slated to appear at the Seaside Heights Food Truck & Music Festival later this June, but their regular beat is along Ocean Avenue in Jersey City.
The business will be taking their next step along those very streets in Greenville as they are taking over space at 269 Ocean Avenue. Formerly occupied by Brenda’s Place, signage for Lady G Bar & Grill has already gone up at the property.
The business has already applied to Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to take over a liquor license at the storefront, which site on the corner of New Street. No menu or potential drinks list has been released just yet, but a new sit-down restaurant is welcome news along this western corridor of the city.
Lady G has been providing sporadic updates about the new restaurant on Instagram at the handle @ladyg_empanadas. Those curious can track the truck to grab some grub or get a few updates about the upcoming restaurant, which is currently under construction.
