Downtown Jersey City has no shortage of fitness options, but a unique outlet that currently operates in only two states will soon be setting up shop inside a prominent high-rise near the Hudson River.
Wundabar will be opening later this year inside the ground floor of 65 Bay Street. The company’s first New Jersey outpost will span about 1,200 square feet in the building’s westernmost storefront located just off the corner of Washington Street across from the Powerhouse.
The company was founded in Los Angeles in 2011 by fitness guru Amy Jordan. Wundabar combines biomechanics and traditional Pilates via their patented “Wundaformer” machine that promotes efficient movement, exceptional flow, and a cardio-intense pace.
Wundabar’s Jersey City studio will be their tenth location nationwide and their first outside of California and New York City. The brand signed a five-year lease at the property, according to Meridian Retail Leasing.
The company expects their Jersey City space to open in the fall this year and their arrival will complete the lease out of the retail space at the two-tower property. After the first phase of the former Trump Bay Street opened in 2008, vacant storefronts were a fixture for almost a decade.
The building’s fortunes eventually turned around as the second tower was being built and retail options at the building currently include Maggie’s Farm Espresso, CVS, CycleBar, Roar Dental, and F45 Training.
