The Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City recently welcomed another new eatery as Khokha began serving their Pakistani-inspired burgers and comfort food just before Christmas.
The new restaurant, situated at 60 Sip Avenue, follows Khokha’s first location in Piscataway launching in 2022. The name comes from a word in the Urdu language that translates to “kiosk” and is frequently used when describing a restaurant located or a shop in a hut, a nod to their smaller space.
The 100% halal restaurant serves a mix of Pakistani and American cuisine in a street-style format. Men highlights include a Wagyu beef burger with chimichurri, jalapeño aioli and romaine or a “modern burner” with a plant-based patty, melted cheddar cheese, grilled tomato, special sauce, and mint chutney.
Their crispy chicken sandwich has been an early hit as has their Anda Shami, which blends a chicken & split chickpeas patty topped with omelet, cabbage, masala, ketchup, garlic sauce and tamarind sauce. Khokha also features a variety of paratha rolls and lamb chops on their menu, which is surprisingly lengthy considering their smaller space.
The restaurant’s more American items still have notable Pakistani influences. Their “loaded fries” have Masala spices and are smothered in cheese sauce, crispy chicken, chutney, and jalapeños, while Khokha’s spin on mac and cheese mixes in chicken tenders and chatpati sauce.
Khokha will soon have catering available and is offering a buy one, get one free deal on their crispy chicken burgers to ring in 2025 on both New Years Eve and New Years Day.
The restaurant, situated just a few blocks from the neighborhood’s PATH station, can be followed on Instagram at the handle @khokhaeats and is now open from 11:00 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily, except Mondays.
