A New York City-based salad chain is looking to open their third Hudson County outpost in one of Jersey City’s most prominent buildings as Just Salad has their sights set on an Exchange Place tower.
Just Salad is applying to open at 99 Hudson Street, which became New Jersey’s tallest building when it was completed in late 2020. The brand’s first Jersey City location launched almost a decade ago, in 2017, at 525 Washington Boulevard, and Just Salad opened a second Hudson County spot in Hoboken in 2022.
Just Salad was founded in 2006 by childhood friends Nick Kenner and Rob Crespi, who opened their first location at 320 Park Avenue in Manhattan during an era when there was a shortage of healthy yet affordable food options in the neighborhood. The company’s slogan is “eat with purpose,” with lofty goals of being environmentally conscious.
All the brand’s restaurants feature a reusable bowl program for guests that eliminates the need for over 75,000 pounds of plastic every year. Besides diverse salads, the restaurant’s menu includes wraps, warm bowls, avocado toast, soups, and smoothies. In addition to dishes with meat options,
Just Salad additionally offers several 100% plant-based substitutes and sells their house-made dressings by the bottle. A timeline has not been released for the opening of what would be their second Jersey City outpost.
Just Salad will somewhat surprisingly be the first retail tenant at 99 Hudson if their plan to open there comes to fruition. The property still sports a completely vacant ground floor retail component despite opening almost six years ago just a block from the Hudson River waterfront.
The neighborhood’s retail scene is about to pick up significantly, however. The recently completed 55 Hudson Street development across the street is slated to house a Trader Joe’s next year, and another tower under construction at 50 Hudson Street includes a retail component plus a new pedestrian plaza.
