The owners of a mobile coffee cart that debuted in Downtown Jersey City earlier this year have grown their business into a cozy storefront atop the Palisades, which now allows them the freedom to serve expanded breakfast and lunch options.
Hybrid Coffee began operating their coffee and espresso cart in the city’s Exchange Place neighborhood earlier this spring and have been building a significant following ever since. Owner Evan Santiago repurposed a 1970s horse trailer for the mobile version, but the business has gone the more traditional brick and mortar route for their newest endeavor.
Launched late last month, Hybrid Coffee + Kitchen serves the same premium coffee and lattes the mobile truck is known for plus a menu that’s still evolving. The dishes currently on the menu include a loaded avocado toast on toasted brioche or eggs in a blanket served in a brioche bun.
For those seeking more lunch-style fare, there’s a Latin-style chicken soup on the menu or a stew sandwich, which consists of seasoned shredded beef poured into a hard bread bowl.
The space itself is located inside the same building as the Hope Center just a block from bustling Central Avenue. Tables, couches, and comfy upholstered chairs dot the landscape, as does a working fireplace. There’s even a working Pac-Man machine for those so inclined.
Hybrid Coffee + Kitchen is located at 110 Cambridge Avenue and is now open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They are closed on Sunday for now, but their Saturday hours run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
