A storefront that has been dark for over two years will be springing to life in the coming months as a spot just off Jersey City’s Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza is slated to welcome a new restaurant.
Gussy’s Café is the latest eatery slated to open at 340 Third Street, space most recently home to the 1970s-themed FM. That endeavor closed in early 2020 right before the COVID-19 pandemic and had showcased local bands during its run.
Details are just beginning to emerge about the new restaurant, which has been in the works since last year. An entity called Gussy’s Café registered at the Jersey City address in June 2021 and an Instagram account at the handle @gussyscafe launched earlier this month.
Gussy’s Café has been chronicling their renovation exploits under the account, a job that began in January and is being undertaken by Cornerstone Builders Group. The business promises “brunch all day” and will include made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and specialty coffee as part of their offerings.
A formal menu has not been released for Gussy’s Café, which will have a sizable footprint to work with in terms of their storefront. Some early renderings of Gussy’s interior have appeared on social media and indicate the restaurant will consist of counter-style ordering and casual seating areas.
A potential opening date for Gussy’s has not been announced, but the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District has already begun promoting the restaurant on their social media accounts.
