The rollout of shopping and dining options continues at East Rutherford’s American Dream as a new restaurant called Jarana is now serving an approachable take on Peruvian cuisine at the sprawling mall.
The 200-seat eatery comes courtesy of Chef Gastón Acurio, whose flagship restaurant in Lima named Astrid y Gastón helped spark the internationalization of Peruvian cuisine. Jarana brings open-fire grilling and a colorful and convivial atmosphere to the space, which is situated on the third floor of American Dream.
Designed by the local Acurio International team, Jarana boasts a welcoming and playful atmosphere that starts upon arrival through an oversized mural. Natural elements like wood and stone ground the concept, while vibrant textiles and polished finishes strive for an elevated feel.
A large and strategically placed bar aims to be the beating heart of the restaurant, as Jarana loosely translates to a raucous celebration filled with food, music, and libations. Corporate Executive Chef Jesus Delgado drew inspiration from Peru’s geographic and cultural diversity to develop a menu with specialties like a shareable half chicken that is marinated Lima-style.
Other highlights include traditional fresh Ceviche, flaming Anticuchos (or grilled meats), and Chinese Peruvian specialties like a Saltados stir fry or Chaufa fried rice. The menu is complemented by a beverage program that is focused on Latin cocktails like Pisco Sours, Chilcanos, Mojitos, and Caipirinhas.
Jarana can be followed on their newly created Instagram account at the handle @jarana.nj and are currently offering lunch and dinner service seven days a week between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
