A staple of the Montclair dining scene will be opening a new location along the main drag of the Mile Square City as Cuban Pete’s will be making their debut in Hoboken later this year.

Last year, Mexican mainstay Charrito’s ended a long run in Hoboken. The restaurant once had two locations in the city but closed their final spot at 518 Washington Street after a run of over two decades.

Cuban Pete’s, founded along Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, will be taking over that Washington Street storefront. The restaurant specializes in tapas like empanadas and a variety of Cuban dishes including garlic shrimp, ropa vieja, and chicharron de pollo, or crispy chicken lollipops with mojo sauce.

In terms of libations at the newest Cuban Pete’s, the Charrito’s property features an active liquor license. However, the ownership of the license would need to be transferred to the new business, and no application has emerged to Hoboken’s Alcoholic Beverage Control board to transfer said license.

The Cuban Pete’s outpost in Hoboken joins the OG in Montclair and an “express” version that opened inside the Willowbrook Mall last year. The eatery joins a plethora of Cuban restaurants along the Hoboken landscape that includes Chango Kitchen, La Isla, and The Cuban.

Those interested in following the restaurant for updates on their future Hoboken location can do so on Instagram at the handle @cuban_petes_restaurant. Cuban Pete’s is currently overhauling their website, which should post a full menu for their Hoboken location when up and running.
