The vacant South Junior High School in Bloomfield is the subject of a plan calling for renovating and expanding the building in order to create 122 residential units, art studio space, and more.

Bloomfield’s downtown has seen plenty of development over the last decade. Now, another new complex could bring over 200 apartments and stores to the Essex County community.

While several of New Jersey’s northern cities are experiencing a revitalization not seen in a generation, the trickle-out effect into the suburbs has also started to pick up some steam. Earlier this week, a new boutique community called The Green at Bloomfield opened up in Bloomfield.

Bloomfield’s Watsessing neighborhood boasts a midtown-direct train, a light rail station, and access to a highway, but has only recently caught the eye of developers.

An undeveloped lot across from one of Bloomfield’s two train stations could soon see major changes.
