A Camden-based graphic design and marketing firm that was co-founded by a former resident of the city was awarded a spot recently on Inc. Magazine’s prestigious “5000 list” — a list of the fastest-growing companies in the United States.
Penji, based on Market Street in Camden, was co-founded by CEO Khai Tran, whose family emigrated from Vietnam and lived in Camden for a number of years.
Penji connects companies with graphic design services in order to make graphic design “fast, simple, and affordable for everyone,” according to the website. “After experiencing first hand how expensive and time consuming graphic design was for small businesses and startups, our founders created Penji.”
Tran founded the firm with Johnathan Grzybowski in April of 2017 and began working with area companies and nonprofits. The business grew substantially, with the firm now serving clients from Philadelphia to as far as Australia. It also offers non-profits their services at a low rate through the new Community Unlimited program, which grants qualified companies access to Penji for $1/month instead of $369. Non-profits can apply here.
The company started with four employees and grew to over 50 in two years. It now works with more than 1,000 brands on six continents, including local companies such as the University of Pennsylvania, AWeber, Pep Boys, Curalate, Medical Guardian, and national companies such as Lyfy, Express, and Reebok.
The company was also named Philadelphia Magazine’s 2018 Startup To Watch.
Grzybowski, the company’s co-founder and CMO, said, “A year ago, we were just a small team of misfits trying to help non-profits in our community with graphic design. Today we’re on INC 5000. What our team has been able to achieve is nothing short of spectacular and I’m honored to be a part of their journey.”
A total of 164 New Jersey companies made the list this year.
