A fast-growing Mexican restaurant has officially arrived in Newark. Bubbakoo’s Burritos has launched its latest outpost in the shadow of a Rutgers University campus.

Late last week, the brand opened their 40th location at 136 Washington Street. Jersey Digs reported on the restaurant’s arrival just about a year ago, with the franchise being operated by Dhruval Patel.

Patel is a seasoned multi-unit entrepreneur with extensive experience in the restaurant industry. In addition to this new venture, Patel owns and operates Bubbakoo’s locations in West Orange and Saddle Brook.

“I’m incredibly excited to bring Bubbakoo’s Burritos to the heart of Newark,” said Patel. “With this strategic location on the Rutgers Newark campus, we have a unique opportunity to serve a diverse mix of students, faculty, and residents alike. We look forward to introducing the community to Bubbakoo’s bold flavors, customizable options, and the welcoming atmosphere that have made the brand such a success across the region.”

Founded in 2008, Bubbakoo’s Burritos was started by Paul Altero and Bill Hart to highlight the roots of New Jersey’s skater and shore scene. The restaurant offers spins on Mexican cuisine including a Papi Hibachi burrito, a Nashville burrito, or “the chiwawa,” an original concoction of the restaurant that consists of lightly fried panko-crusted cheesy rice ball topped with nacho cheese.

Sixteen different protein options are available to stuff your entrée, including barbecue shredded chicken, general Tso’s chicken, sriracha pork, veggie patty, hibachi steak, or sweet chili shrimp.

Bubbakoo’s recently signed on as “the Official Burrito Supplier of Rutgers Athletics” and hopes to capitalize on their Washington Street location, which is situated in Newark’s University Heights neighborhood.

“The opening of our Newark location is a testament to Bubbakoo’s strong momentum and our dedication to serving vibrant communities like those surrounding the Rutgers Newark campus,” said Bill Hart, co-founder of Bubbakoo’s Burritos. “Over the years, we’ve built a great relationship with the university and its community, and this new location is a natural extension of that connection.”
