The Brunswick Center, located at 189 Brunswick Street between 6th and 7th Streets, has been open since June 2015, and for Jersey City residents, it is a modern urban version of a local community center, offering everything from kickboxing to ballroom dancing, but many still don’t know that the former Holy Rosary Catholic School is now a hub dedicated to healthy, focusing on fitness, wellness, and education.
The only place like it in Jersey City, The Brunswick Center is a collection of businesses committed to improving wellness with a singular and simple mission: “To improve the city and community in which we live.”
The Center was conceived and constructed by local developer BGT Enterprises who saw a parallel between the very literal growth of Downtown Jersey City and the more intangible growth of residents’ desires to maintain their well-being conveniently and even collaboratively. Their investment on such a local level and in the actual hearts and minds of residents can only yield positive returns.
Currently, there are 14 members of the Brunswick Center community, including The Brunswick School which is the newest preschool in Jersey City and enrolls children through Kindergarten. The Center is a place for adults and children too at Hudson Play, Jersey City KickBoxing, and AU Capoeira–the Brazilian art-form that is a mix of dance, music, acrobatics, and self-defense; power through premier personal training at Iron Plate Studios or breathe through the burn at Power House Pilates; sweat it out during a Rush Cycling class and salsa or swing at Jersey City Ballroom which was also awarded the Best of Weddings 2017 by The Knot. And Jersey City Ballet offers classes that are affordable and accessible to all.
Beyond fitness, there are two members specializing in holistic health and wellness. FreedOM Therapeutics creates customized plans for clients, inspiring a well-rounded mind-body connection through meditation, yoga, and massage. And The Art of Living teaches breathing and meditation techniques to stop stress and enable learning to be sustainably happy. A colonic specialist is also on-site and Blackbird Gallery & Art studio exhibits contemporary art and photography plus hosts creative and studio art classes for all levels.
The Brunswick Center founder, BGT Enterprises, is a “one-stop real estate shop” in Jersey City offering development, contracting, management, and lending services while specializing in high design condo developments.
The Center is certainly a different kind of venture, but bringing local businesses together under one roof that enhance the well being of neighborhood residents echoes their commitment to the community through real estate projects.
