After surviving a launch that took place during a global pandemic, Muteki Ramen is officially bringing a second location to a Jersey City storefront that has been a revolving door of businesses in recent years.
Jersey Digs broke the news about the arrival of Muteki Ramen to Hoboken way back in 2017. The eatery, situated at 533 Washington Street, took some time to get up and running and eventually opened for business during 2020.
Muteki Ramen is now heading south to open their next restaurant inside 2,500-square feet of space at 100 York Street. The storefront, situated next to Buddy Who’s, was most recently home to the LGBTQ-friendly Pianist Envy that unfortunately never re-opened following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Operating under the slogan of “No Ramen, No Peace,” the menu at Muteki Ramen includes starters like shrimp shumai dumplings and fried okonomiyaki, which are Japanese vegetable pancakes.
Other appetizers including wings and karaage fried chicken are featured alongside a variety of buns ranging from fried shrimp or vegetable tempura selections to pork belly with shredded cabbage and yakitori sauce.
The restaurant’s signature Muteki Ramen dish mixes both chicken and pork broths alongside pork and chicken chashu, butter corn, kikurage mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. Several of Muteki Ramen’s dishes that bring the heat include a spicy Volcano Miso dish, a kimchi ramen, or a Thai green curry variety.
A few meatless dishes like a creamy vegetarian ramen or a maze-men ramen, which subs in a shoyu base for broth, round out the menu.
Muteki Ramen’s Hoboken outpost is a BYOB situation, but the 100 York Street spot in Jersey City has long had a liquor license associated with the property. But it appears the license has not been transferred despite Muteki Ramen taking over the space and it is unclear at this point if libations will be part of the restaurant’s offerings.
A representative for Muteki Ramen disclosed to Jersey Digs that they plan to open the York Street location sometime this summer. In the meantime, they can be followed on Instagram at the handle @mutekiramen for further updates.
