For the second time in six years, a new residential building is being proposed for a vacant group of properties next to a Jersey City public school.

Back in 2014, the Village Neighborhood Association posted online that a five-story development with 20 units had been planned for the four tracts that make up 377-383 Fourth Street next to Dr. Michael Conti Public School #5. At the time, the association wrote that the variances needed for the project to proceed had been denied by the Jersey City Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA).

Now, more than half a decade later, plans to bring a 20-unit building to the premises have been reactivated. Alan Cancro, who applied in 2018 to bring an eight-story development near the Five Corners, is now seeking to construct a four-story project at 377-383 Fourth Street, according to a public notice. Cancro is seeking Preliminary and Final Major Site Plan approval from the ZBA along with variances related to parking and density.

The ZBA is scheduled to hear the latest plans on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the Jersey City Zoning Board of Adjustment and other commissions are subject to change.
