After sitting vacant for close to two years, the former Tender Shoot Farm space in Jersey City’s downtown has finally found a tenant.
Rumors were swirling on social media last week that an Amish Market location would be opening its doors in the space at 138 Newark Avenue along the pedestrian mall. Although the building owner could not immediately be reached for comment and employees at two Amish Market locations across the Hudson told us that they were unaware of an upcoming location in Jersey City, a spokesperson for the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District confirmed to Jersey Digs that an Amish Market will be taking over the space.
City records show that several construction permits have been issued this year for 138 Newark Avenue, including ones for a renovation of the space, structural repair, electrical work, and ductwork installation for the kitchen.
There are currently three Amish Markets in Manhattan, with locations in Tribeca, Hell’s Kitchen, and Midtown East. Despite the name and logo, the stores are not similar to traditional Amish markets like those in Flemington and Mullica Hill. Rather, they resemble other New York markets like Garden of Eden. Each of the small chain’s grocery stores sells fresh produce and includes a deli, a dining area, a pizza stand, and a buffet.
