Over the last few years, coworking has been on the rise, with hundreds of coworking spaces opening throughout the New York Metropolitan Area. Newark is no exception to this, with the recent openings of Newark Foundry Workspaces on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Launch Pad at the Hahne & Co. building, and =SPACE on Market Street and at the Gateway Center. Now, a coworking center is preparing to open in the city’s Ironbound neighborhood.

A business called 3rd Space is coming to the recently completed Textile Lofts building at 142 Lafayette Street at the corner of New Jersey Railroad Avenue. The center will include a cafe called The Ground which will serve coffee from Newark-based Red House Roasters, according to the company’s website. It is slated to be open on weekday mornings and afternoons and will include conference rooms, event space, a kitchenette, phone booths, artwork by students from Newark Arts High School, and smart lockers. Internet access will reportedly be provided using Newark Fiber.

The cost to use the coworking facility will apparently vary drastically based on the amount of space that a client is interested in. 3rd Space’s website shows that while a day pass will cost $25 and renting a conference room will range from $75 to $100 per day, a dedicated desk will cost $385 a month and a private office will cost over $1,500 each month.

The Textile Lofts development was constructed out of the former East Ward Industrial Complex and also includes 64 apartments. The coworking part of the building is reportedly expected to open later this month.
