A few weeks ago when we announced Tender Shoot Farm will be closing, there was speculation about a massive rent hike driving the owners out. While we don’t know the details of their lease renewal offer, we do know that the owners of Tender Shoot decided to close down shop.
Now, there’s a new rental listing for the prime retail space. The 4,800 square foot space spans two levels and is asking $22,000 a month.
Which brings up a good point. The only businesses that can afford these high rents are going to be bars and restaurants. And even then, it will take a well-experienced operator to keep it afloat. I understand that it’s called ‘restaurant row’, but how many large scale restaurants can one block support?
Bell + Gray shuttered after only a few months. The Kitchen at Grove Station was short lived. Then there are rumors circulating that Talde is struggling too. Is it possible ‘restaurant row’ developed too quickly? Only time will tell.
As for Tender Shoot, they are currently running a store closing sale, offering 10% off most of their inventory. They plan to close for good in mid-August.
