The Hollywood invasion of New Jersey is continuing into 2025 as another major motion picture starring Sydney Sweeney has begun filming in several New Jersey towns.

“The Housemaid,” which is based off a book that was released in 2022, kicked off filming on Friday last week at Green Way Markets in Ridgewood. The Bergen County town was the first of what will be many stops for the production, which is slated to continue filming over the coming weeks.

Per Deadline, the film adaption of the popular book was announced in October last year. The screenplay is by Rebecca Sonnenshine and based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden, which has been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than a year and sold more than 3.6 million copies.

Sweeney, best known for her television roles on “Euphoria,” and “The White Lotus” plus last year’s summer blockbuster “Anyone But You,” plays the main character. Co-starring in the film is Amanda Seyfried, who you may remember for roles in “Mean Girls,” “Mamma Mia!,” and the most recent film adaption of “Les Misérables.”

Sweeney will play Millie, a struggling woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.

The Housemaid will also co-star New Jersey’s own Brandon Sklenar, whose recent roles include It Ends With Us (which also filmed primarily in the Garden State) and Emily The Criminal.

Tap Into Morristown reported over the weekend that Sweeney and company were spotted in East Hanover’s Bowling Lanes and the crew was shooting scenes in Montclair yesterday. Other rumored spots set to play host to “The Housemaid” include Cresskill and a studio in Jersey City.

“The Housemaid” has landed the highly coveted release date of Christmas Day later this year and will be distributed through Lionsgate. The film is being directed by Paul Feig, who helmed “Bridesmaids,” among other box office hits.
