Along Communipaw Avenue between The Junction and the West Side of Jersey City, there is a group of five properties where no buildings stand. However, that could change should plans advance for a new mixed-use development.
A company known only as 612 Communipaw, LLC is looking to construct a six-story building at 612, 614, and 616 Communipaw Avenue along with neighboring 91 and 93 Harrison Avenue.
The development would contain 59 apartments and one commercial space, according to a Jersey City Redevelopment Agency agenda. One of the apartments would be designated as “affordable” and no parking would be provided on the premises, the agenda says.
In recent years, these parcels have primarily sat vacant under municipal ownership, though they have been used at times by the Community Uplifting Project Garden.
The closest Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station to the premises, MLK Drive, is half a mile away while New Jersey Transit’s 1 bus to Exchange Place and Newark runs along Communipaw Avenue.
