The team behind an acclaimed New York City Indian eatery is officially crossing the Hudson River in the coming days, as Punjab Meet House will launch on the ground floor of one of Jersey City’s most prominent new developments.

Construction ramped up earlier this year at the restaurant, located at 25 Columbus Drive. Jersey Digs first reported on the planned eatery way back in 2023 when a company named Grand Trunk Hospitality LLC applied to Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control to transfer a liquor license to “space B” at the Haus25 development.

That company could be traced to Ahtesham Rizvi, who runs GupShup in Manhattan’s Gramercy neighborhood and other ventures that include the Bib Gourmand-awarded Bungalow on First Avenue. The Jersey City restaurant has since brought in Shaila Rizvi Studio to create the colorful design for their space, which spans about 2,245 square feet and aims to evoke the warmth of a true Punjabi home.

Punjab Meet House sports both table and bar seating and has a kitchen run by chef Zahir Khan, who also helmed GupShup. Born in India, Chef Khan was raised in a culinary family and is a 3rd generation master chef.

The restaurant recently hosted a friends-and-family event in anticipation of their launch, which will be open to the public on Friday, July 3, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 pm. The new eatery promises a “taste of Pre-Partitioned Punjab,” along with a full beverage program.

While a full menu has not been released, teaser images from the restaurant show dishes like Haneeth goat ribs and a smoky chicken tikka dish. Punjab Meet House will take walk-ins only on their opening weekend, Saturday and Sunday, while the restaurant will be closed on Mondays.

Reservations will be made available shortly after the launch of Punjab Meet House, which joins Meximodo as the ground-floor tenants at the 56-story tower. The restaurant can be followed on Instagram for further updates at the handle @punjabmeethouse.
