A new eatery from the ownership behind New York City’s GupShup has officially begun the buildout of their restaurant as Punjab Meet House is slated to open inside a large space in Downtown Jersey City.
Jersey Digs first reported on the planned restaurant way back in 2023 when a company named Grand Trunk Hospitality LLC applied to Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control to transfer a liquor license to “space B” at 25 Columbus Drive. The company’s ownership could be traced to Ahtesham Rizvi, who runs GupShup in Manhattan’s Gramercy neighborhood.
GupShup opened in 2018 and serves Bombay-style street food in a more upscale space. Their creative dishes are accompanied by Indian-inspired cocktails like a rum mango lassi or a Goan sunrise with vodka, cucumber, basil, and green chartreuse.
The new Jersey City restaurant will span 2,245 square feet and, when up and running, offer a “taste of Pre-Partitioned Punjab,” along with a beverage program.
While Punjab Meet House doesn’t have an official opening date just yet, an Instagram account has been created for the restaurant at the handle @punjabmeethouse.
Punjab Meet House is slated to join Meximodo as the two tenants inside the Haus 25 development, which redeveloped a large surface parking lot into residences plus a public school facility.
