A restaurant called Rancho Mateo is planning to open near North Hudson County Park at 9011 Palisade Avenue. Two Italian restaurants, 90 Park and Antonia’s by the Park, previously operated in the building, which has its own parking lot for customers.
According to the business Facebook page, the restaurant will bring the best in Colombian cuisine to the township. Although Rancho Mateo might be new to North Bergen, it has been operating in New Jersey for nearly 50 years, and currently has another restaurant in Midtown Elizabeth that serves a wide variety of items, including salads, seafood, empanadas, arepas, ceviche, sandwiches, and carne a la llanera. The Elizabeth location is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Another area business, Fussy Friends Pet Supply, is also opening a location in the township. The company currently has a store in Downtown Jersey City. The new North Bergen outpost will be located in the old Party With Us Online space at 7731 Bergenline Avenue. A grand opening date has not yet been set.
Several national retailers are also looking to open in North Bergen. Records from the North Bergen Planning Board show that a Dollar Tree store is planned for the Tonnelle Center at 8101 Tonnelle Avenue, and that a Wawa convenience store and gas station could come down the street to the site of the United Candy and Tobacco Building at 7408 Tonnelle Avenue. Nearby, a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location is proposed for 8701-8711 Tonnelle Avenue.
In addition, two new food markets recently opened in the township. Union City’s Fiji In and Out Food Store has opened its second location in the former S&H Food Land space at 4401 Bergen Turnpike. The new store includes a deli and grill, and also sells coffee, fresh squeezed juices, and fruit smoothies. Across town, a Food Bazaar supermarket opened in November in the old Food Basics building at 1425 John F. Kennedy Boulevard. This is the tri-state area grocery retailer’s second location in Hudson County after West New York.
