A unique restaurant chain, Kura Sushi, is looking forward to opening their second Garden State location later this year at a storefront situated along one of Jersey City’s largest commercial areas.

Jersey Digs broke the news back in September of last year about the impending arrival of Kura Sushi. The brand established their U.S. presence 14 years ago, but parent company Kura Corporation opened their first restaurant in Japan back way back in 1977.

The company currently operates 500 locations of Kura Sushi across Japan, Taiwan and the United States and are planning to launch their Newport Tower at 525 Washington Boulevard during the summer of 2022. Kura Sushi is known for their “revolving sushi bar,” which is operated by a primary belt that snakes through the dining area with plates of sushi that are protected by a ventilated lid.

Kura Sushi embraces a philosophy of freshness, preparing their food with natural, premium ingredients that are free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings. Besides sushi, the rest of their menu includes a variety of soups, salads, dumplings, fried takoyaki, carpaccio, and udon dishes.

Kura Sushi’s experience in Jersey City will include a two-layer conveyor belt system plus a Bikkura Pon Prize System, with rewards given to customers for every 15 sushi plates purchased. The Newport Tower location follows the restaurant’s first New Jersey outpost in Fort Lee inside George Washington Bridge Plaza, which opened in September 2020.
