The lights have been turned back on at one of Jersey City’s beloved dive bar spaces as a new business called Kitty O’Shea’s has quietly opened, with a further launch slated in the coming months.

Jersey Digs broke the news last year about big changes coming to the dormant space at 49 Beacon Avenue. The property had been home to Bobby Dee’s, a dive bar known for their deep ties to the community. One of the more colorful events they once threw was a party celebrating Osama bin Laden’s death during their long run.

The space had been renovated a bit in 2018 under new ownership but eventually closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The group behind the new endeavor at the property includes Michael Dorrian and many of the same players who took over Grace O’Malley’s on Newark Avenue back in 2020.

The same group also launched Irving Public down the road in the Heights just about two years ago. Kitty O’Shea’s is now in soft open mode and open in time for the NFL season.

The business will have a full kitchen up and running at some point later this year but is open only for drinks at this juncture. A teaser image from their social media promises paninis, bar bites, and more, but a full menu has not been released just yet.

Kitty O’Shea’s is now open from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from noon until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. They open for football on Sundays at 2 p.m. and can be followed on Instagram at the handle @kittyosheasjc as their full launch rolls out.
