A restaurant ownership group with a significant stake in Jersey City looks like they could be adding a new business to their repertoire as the beloved Bobby Dee’s space in The Heights could soon turn the lights back on.

For those uninitiated, Bobby Dee’s at 49 Beacon Avenue was a dive bar known for their deep ties to the community. One of the more colorful events they once threw was a party celebrating Osama bin-Laden’s death during their long run.

The bar underwent a renovation in 2018 after it was taken over by a group that included Edward’s Steakhouse owner Dominick Pandolfo, but the space has been shuttered for a bit.

Jersey Digs has now learned that the space could be turning over yet another new leaf, as an application has been made to Jersey City Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to transfer the Bobby Dee’s license to an entity called Fro Da Hip LLC.

While little is known about the venture, the group behind the license includes Michael Dorrian and many of the same players who took over Grace O’Malley’s on Newark Avenue back in 2020. The same group also launched Irving Public in the Heights just about two years ago.

Whether or not the new bar will be called Fro Da Hip remains to be seen, as a public notice on the matter does not include any potential official business name. The earliest the license could be transferred to the potential new owners would be September 16, which is the next meeting of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
