A breakfast, lunch, and bakery shop that has won rave reviews out of Westfield is preparing to expand into Morris County as Kirshenbaum Baking Co. is putting the finishing touches on their second space.
The husband/wife team of Uyen and Jeff Kirshenbaum launched their first location 62 Elm Street less than two years ago. Their journey towards opening the bakery started under unfortunate circumstances during COVID when they were both furloughed from their previous jobs out of California.
Executive Chef/Owner Uyen has a notable restaurant background with a pastry focus, working at the Ecole Lenôtre in Paris and becoming the first female pastry chef at Restaurant Guy Savoy in Las Vegas.
The road to starting Kirshenbaum Baking Co. began with ‘Jeff’s Cookie’, a dairy-free and flourless delight that Uyen created for Jeff due to his dietary restrictions. The pair began shipping those first to family and friends before eventually growing the idea into a business that shipped Uyen’s signature cookies nationwide.
The pair relocated to the East Coast shortly thereafter and launched their bakery business, which is slated to open their second location later this month at 22 Schuyler Place in Morristown. The café service at Kirshenbaum Baking Co. starts early with croissants, cruffins, muffins, and more alongside some breakfast sandwiches and cheese hand pies.
Highlights from the lunch options, all made on house-baked breads, include pressed paninis on sourdough, egg salad and arugula on challah, and tuna salad served in a croissant.
And of course, there are cookie options like salted chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate, and tons more. Their pies, including a key lime variety, have also proved popular.
The 1,300-square-foot Morristown space sports a modern design including a coffee station and cozy couches for those looking for a quiet place to work. The bakery, set to open during the last days of August, can be followed on Instagram at the handle @kirshbakingco.
