Looks like the former Powerhouse Lounge/6th Borough space is getting a new operator. A dumpster is out front and city construction permits are hanging in the window. Rumor has it [Confirmed] It’s being taken over by Andrej Ivanov and Ladi Sebestyan, owners of Pilsener Haus in Hoboken.
If true, this would be a welcomed change for the prominent location. After suffering from bad management for years, the space closed for good last August. A perusal of yelp reviews outlines numerous problems stemming mainly from horrible customer service and basic ineptitude.
A request for comment from Ivanov and Sebestyanthe was not immediately returned. The two are no strangers to the bar and restaurant scene. In addition to Pilsener Haus, they also own The Bonney Read and Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten in Asbury Park.
The space has significant potential and under the right ownership could really thrive. Especially considering all the new residents coming to the area. Based on the new owners’ other establishments, it’s probably safe to guess this new place will appeal to the hip, craft beer drinking crowd.
