One of the country’s biggest retailers is bringing in some big New York sports stars to launch their latest store and entertainment facility as Dick’s House of Sport will be hosting their grand opening over the weekend.

Jersey Digs reported on the imminent opening of the store last year, which is taking over a portion of the former Sears space on the third floor of the Newport Mall. While shoppers can expect all the usual sports products at the new store, the 85,000-square-foot facility also offers some unique experiences.

A climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators, and a multi-sport cage that can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer are included at the new store, which has soft opened. Dick’s House of Sport will be hosting a ribbon cutting in the coming days and offering a series of perks plus athlete appearances during the launch.

A free ferry service from New York City’s Pier 81 will run from September 19 to the 21st for shoppers, with the first 50 adult riders at each pier receiving a $10 gift card. Mystery gift cards will also be distributed for the first 100 adults at the actual store each morning.

Free 30oz. Stanley Quenchers will also be given to the first 300 guests in store over 10 years of age during the opening weekend, plus a DSG soccer ball giveaway will occur for the first 100 children each morning.

Besides all the giveaways, former New York Yankees third basemen Alex Rodriguez and current New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns will be appearing at noon at the store on September 20 and 21st, respectively.

Wristbands are required to attend and will be distributed at the store on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at the opening for each day’s appearance.

The opening of Dick’s House of Sport completes the turnover of the former two-floor footprint of a Sears that occupied the Newport Mall for many years. Primark launched earlier this year inside the other portion of the space at the facility, which has a few other new businesses in the works, including a Tapville location.
