Construction is continuing to advance on a five-story multi-family complex that is being built across from a country club and an upscale suburban shopping plaza in Essex County.
The largely market-rate residential project at 1 Fineran Way in the Short Hills section of Millburn Township has topped off. The development, which is now being branded as “The Upton,” is being developed by Mack-Cali’s Roseland Residential Trust at the site of the company’s former 233 Canoe Brook Road office building.
Located near the Canoe Brook Country Club’s North Course and The Mall at Short Hills, The Upton is slated to include amenities such as a billiards lounge, wine cellar, golf lounge, fitness center, pool, dog play area, three courtyards, and a play area for children, according to the project website. A hotel is also planned nearby.
The number of units at The Upton has fluctuated over the last several years, with a document by WDG Architecture mentioning that there will be 215 units, Belle Associates listing that 198 units are envisioned, and a February 2019 Mack-Cali press release stating that 200 units are in the works. The most recent report mentioning the project, a November 2019 presentation by Mack-Cali, stated that 195 apartments were planned.
Once completed, the development will mark the first residential presence in this car-oriented area at the edge of Short Hills, which is made up of the shopping center, several office buildings, and a Hilton hotel. The only ways to drive to the rest of Millburn Township from this location are by taking John F. Kennedy Parkway to Parsonage Hill Road or driving on either Routes 24 or 124.
Construction on The Upton is expected to be completed in the fall, according to the development website.
