A staple of the New York City breakfast scene that can be shockingly hard to find in Jersey City is about to become greater in supply as a new business called Cheech’s Bagels is slated to open later this year.
Local developer Silverman announced the arrival of the bagel shop in an Instagram post on National Bagel Day. Cheech’s Bagels will be taking a storefront at 176 Erie Street inside the Swift & Co. property.
“Get ready to meet longtime friends and business partners Gianluca and John, and enjoy the best bagels and more,” said the post.
Little else is known about the future bagel shop, which will be situated just a block from Hamilton Park. Cheech’s Bagels hopes to open sometime in 2024.
Jersey City has a notable lack of bagel shops for a city of its size, especially for a spot in the Garden State. There have also been a few shops that somehow failed despite the scarcity, from Bodega Bagels to the recent City Bagel Deli & Grill that closed after less than a year in business.
Cheech’s Bagels doesn’t have a website just yet, but they can be followed on Instagram at the handle @cheechsbagels.
