In 1885, Swift & Co. stables occupied the space at 220 Ninth Street until the 1940s. Beyond the name, the Jersey City Public Library’s historic maps collection influenced the color palette and typographic style.
Swift & Co. presents a contemporary counterpoint to the neighborhood’s 19th century architecture yet draws on its historical industrial past with a cutting edge design by STUDIO V Architecture. Inspired by biophilic and 20th-century Italian modern design, the Swift & Co. interiors seek to add to our connection with nature, by selecting thoughtful and inspirational materials. The sleek and striking lobby features sustainable materials including Italian marble terrazzo and a massive, eye-catching sculptural concierge desk carved from a naturally fallen acacia tree bringing us back to the forest.
The lobby features orange mailboxes, inspired by the unique red-orange hue of the feathers of northern flickers frequently spotted in Hamilton Park. ANDlight Pebble LED lighting above the mailboxes echo the pebble shapes found in the terrazzo marble floor.
Swift & Co. offers a calming escape from city life and cultivates a working and living community unlike anything else in Jersey City.
