Residents of the Peninsula City have a new sweet spot that also serves hearty breakfast and lunch plates as Carmelo Bakery has opened along Bayonne’s main street.
Mayor Jimmy Davis recently joined members of the Pereira family for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the Carmelo Bakery at the corner of 27th Street and Broadway. The owners of the bakery came to the U.S. from Uruguay and Argentina before settling in Bayonne and opening their business, which focuses on South American treats.
The day at Carmelo Bakery starts with breakfast sandwiches from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. along with coffee and latte drinks. Their lunch menu starts at noon and includes options like a New York Strip served with homemade potato salad and French fries.
No bakery would be complete without sweets and Bayonne’s newest business has them in spades. Highlights include Pasta frola sweet tarts, bizcochos cakes, cookies, cherry with custard cream and puff pastry, and a slew of other goodies.
The name Carmelo Bakery is a tribute to a bridge in Uruguay in a city known for its bridges. The business is open daily from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and can be followed on Instagram at the handle @carmelo.bakery.
