An Italian specialties shop that has become a big hit since opening in Hamilton Park will be expanding later this year as two prominent Jersey City developments will be getting Cangiano’s outposts.

The shop opened at 225 Pavonia just about four years ago. Brothers Bill and Vincent Vallely opened a pop-up sandwich shop during the fall of 2019 in the Hamilton Square Courtyard and then partnered for the business with Norman Bonoan and Cosmo Cangiano, whose grandparents opened the first Cangiano’s in Brooklyn in 1919.

Cangiano’s sports fresh breads, bagels, imported meats, sandwiches and cold cuts, cookies, pastries, coffee and espresso, drinks, fresh mozzarella, and cheeses from around the world in their cozy shop. The owners of the business recently shared details with Hoboken Girl about their newest shops, which are both slated to being construction soon.

A smaller version of Cangiano’s will be located at 615 Pavonia Street inside the Journal Squared development. The sandwich shop will sport a hot bar and add to food options in the neighborhood, which just welcomed Food Story Natural Market last month.

The other spot Cangiano’s is expanding into is at 316 15th Street inside the Hudson House complex. That development has re-imagined the Emerson Radio Factory into a residential community and because of the building’s footprint, the Cangiano’s in that space will be much larger and feature a pizza oven, gelato, a fryer, a dry-aged meat case.

The team behind Cangiano’s hope to have both their new Jersey City outposts up and running by the end of 2024. The company can be followed on Instagram at the handle @cangianosjerseycity for further updates.
