There is a new place to shop for clothing in Downtown Newark.
BrownMill Company has opened a location at 49 Halsey Street, across from the Hahne & Co. development. The business, which was founded more than a decade ago by Justis Pitt-Goodson, held a grand opening celebration for its Halsey Street store on June 5.
This new store is being branded as BrownMill Atelier and is open daily except for Monday.
In a statement, BrownMill Company says that all of their products are custom made from recycled material.
“Pieces of salvaged material are incorporated into every design, creating entirely new garments crafted to perfection,” the statement notes. “The style is further motivated by its ties to the community and to the urban backdrop in which it began, drawing heavily from the black and brown cultural experience in America.”
The storefront was previously home to Cut Creaters and Affordable Copies Center.
