A property located a few blocks away from Newark’s Branch Brook Park that is owned by the city’s school district could be transferred to a new owner.
The Newark Board of Education released a request for bids earlier this month that states that 122-136 Seventh Avenue “is no longer needed for school purposes” and that the parcel could be sold to the highest bidder.
The premises stretch from Colonnade Place to Amity Place and contain a gated surface parking lot.
Bids are being accepted through Wednesday, January 27, at 2:00 p.m., according to the request, which notes that submissions are required to include a $10,000 refundable deposit. Bids will then be opened on a conference call that will be publicly accessible.
Any sale would reportedly require the approval of the board, the superintendent of schools, and the New Jersey Department of Education.
Located in the area that once was the First Ward’s Little Italy neighborhood prior to redevelopment projects decades ago, 122-136 Seventh Avenue is currently situated between Wynona Lipman Gardens, St. Lucy’s Church, and the Colonnade Apartments not far from Newark Broad Street Station.
