While big box stores, chain restaurants, and car dealerships are probably what come to mind when you think of Route 1 in Central Jersey, you might soon be able to add indoor skydiving to that list. That is because iFLY, a chain of indoor skydiving centers, is planning to bring a vertical wind tunnel to Edison.
This Middlesex County iFLY location is slated to open at Hartz Mountain’s Edison Towne Square complex. The shopping center, which is located where the Ford Motor Company’s Edison Assembly plant operated until 2004, currently contains locations of Topgolf, Starbucks Coffee, Zinburger, and Sam’s Club and is still in the process of being developed.
Keith Peterson, iFLY’s brand marketing director, confirmed the plans for an iFLY in Edison to Jersey Digs.
“We are in the permitting stage with this location,” said Peterson, adding that the company is expecting a grand opening in Edison during the first quarter of 2020.
Currently, New Jersey’s only indoor skydiving center is an iFLY location in Paramus, though the state does have multiple companies offering traditional skydiving in Gloucester, Hunterdon, and Sussex Counties. iFLY currently has 36 locations in the United States along with multiple outposts in Australia, Brazil, England, France, and New Zealand, according to its website.
