A property that has been home to a medical building in recent years is slated to be transformed into a modern residential structure following a green light from officials in Union county’s largest city.
Just weeks ago, Jersey Digs reported on a proposal that would construct a 17-unit development at 308-312 West Jersey Street. Situated in the Elmora section of Elizabeth, the land was acquired by Springfield-based Life Assets in August 2020 for $900,000.
A house on the property that lately served as a healthcare office will soon be torn down after Elizabeth’s planning board granted unanimous site plan approval to redevelop the land during their January 6 meeting. The new development is slated to rise five stories and will feature 17 two-bedroom apartments.
“The City of Elizabeth has an incredible vision for this neighborhood, and we are thrilled to be a part of this new development project,” said Alberto Goncalves, CEO and President of Life Assets.
Designed by architect James Guerra, the development will include 26 ground-floor parking spots for future residents. Other features at the building include a community room, fitness center, a touchless entry system, and electric vehicle charging stations.
Modern design elements that include the use of dark brick and fiber cement trim on the exterior will be featured at the development, which is expected to break ground this coming fall. Life Assets estimates the buildout of the project will take approximately 24 months to complete.
