A musical icon with a long career and a slew of Grammys has finalized the sale of his New Jersey home as the former residence of Paquito D’Rivera has shattered a sales record for North Bergen.
D’Rivera, a Cuban-America bandleader known for his smooth alto-sax blend of Latin jazz and classical music, has unloaded his single-family home along Boulevard East. The historic colonial-style property, first built in 1911, was listed last September.
The 5,000 square foot home, initially listed at $1.75 million, ended up selling for $1.525 million. That number is the highest price on record for a single-family home ever sold in North Bergen, blowing past the previous highest sale by $425,000.
The majestic home overlooks the Hudson River waterfront and sports spectacular views of the New York City skyline. The 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom brick home has been updated despite its age, with changes that include a two-story addition, a supersized eat-in kitchen, a junior bedroom suite and balcony on the second level.
Old world charm is still intact at the property via stained glass windows and a living area showcasing a marble fireplace. The home’s spacious den opens out to a large blue-stone terrace and backyard outdoor space that is enclosed by motorized steel gates.
D’Rivera’s former home was designed to entertain and features amenities like a heated Gunite swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam room and a billiards room. A four-car driveway and a detached two-car garage are also included in the home, which was sold by Angela Cuciniello of Coldwell Banker Realty.
“The rarity of this beautiful home accounts for it having attained a record price for North Bergen,” said Cuciniello, noting that the property is one of only three Colonials of its size nestled on Boulevard East. “It was an honor to have been selected by Paquito to represent his amazing home.”
According to Cuciniello, there were four competing offers for the home and the buyer ended up being from Hoboken. Danny Rojo from Coldwell Banker Realty in Fort Lee represented the buyer.
