More development is coming to Harrison, this time in a different part of town. In recent years, several new projects, from a hotel to apartment buildings, have started rising in the southernmost section of Harrison, near the PATH station and Red Bull Arena. Now, the eastern part of town, which still has a large industrial and commercial presence with facilities like the Pechter’s Bakery Co. manufacturing plant, the Campbell Foundry, and the Supor Industrial Park in the area, could see an increase in residential offerings.

According to a legal notice from the Harrison Planning Board, one such location is 730-738 Harrison Avenue, between Hiram Place and Kingsland Avenue. Although the site currently contains a fenced-off vacant building that was once home to Sterling Auto Sales and Hogan Car Centers, it is set to be replaced with a mixed-use development. The four-story building is slated to include 36 residential units, a commercial space on the ground floor, and parking. It would be developed by Golden Brick Home Improvement Development, LLC, of Wayne, Passaic County. The company bought the property for $725,000 in September 2016, according to NJ Parcels records.

The site is within walking distance of West Hudson Park, the Harrison Public Library, and the community’s downtown.

This development would not be the first mixed-use project in this neighborhood. Just across the street from the site, a three-story project that contains Chen’s Harrison Supermarket was built over five years ago where the historic Max’s Grill diner used to stand.
