After many years of residential-heavy development, Jersey City caught a hotel bug in 2017 that saw the opening of a Residence Inn by Marriott and a Hyatt House outpost. Now, the company behind a Canopy by Hilton project has officially revealed what the under-construction development will look like when it’s completed.

Late last year, ground broke at 159 Morgan Street on a new hotel project from KABR Group. The 211-room facility will rise 10 stories and feature 6,500 square feet of retail space on the building’s ground floor. The hotel’s main lobby, which is planned for the second floor, would be connected by an elevator at the street level.

Some new details have emerged about the hotel — it will include several first-class amenities and sport a rooftop bar. Work at the property is being managed by Kattera, formerly known as Fields Construction, and is moving briskly; the frame of the hotel currently rises seven stories and has hummed along despite some recent frigid temperatures.

The property will be the first New Jersey location for the growing Canopy by Hilton franchise, which opened their first hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland, back in 2015. The young brand is known for including a “local feel” in their designs and features beds that have a canopy created by a grey headboard that reaches to the ceiling and overhangs.

Hilton’s Canopy franchise has around 30 hotels in the pipeline and just opened an outpost in Charlotte, North Carolina, last month. While the company has not announced an official opening date for the Jersey City hotel, construction progress suggests it could welcome guests later this year.
