The ownership team behind a Southern Indian eatery that opened about three years ago will be launching a new restaurant called Bangalore Kitchen in Jersey City’s Newport neighborhood.
Temporary signage has gone up at 126 River Drive heralding the new restaurant, which will be setting up shop in the old Loradella’s space that shuttered earlier this year. Bangalore Kitchen will be operated by the same owners as local favorite Dosa Spot, which started out as a traveling food truck.
The brick-and-mortar version launched in 2022 inside the Newport Mall and have quietly been amassing a sizable following. Their dosas, or savory Indian pancakes made from fermented rice and black lentils, have won raves from locals.
Highlights at Dosa Spot include their onion masala variety or their butter and ghee roasted dosas. The restaurant additionally highlights several types of idli, medu vada, and filter coffee, sporting some traditional Indian vegetarian food as well.
Named after a city in Southern India, it’s probably safe to say that the menu at the upcoming Bangalore Kitchen will include dosas. No other menu has been released just yet, and the restaurant has not yet launched any social media presence.
Bangalore Kitchen is one of several upcoming restaurants slated for the Newport area including the Solaz Restaurant & Top Swing Golf Suites that is opening just two blocks away. Other soon-to-launch eateries include Tapville and a Paris Baguette location.
Newport has welcomed several new food options in the past year plus including Dunhuang Noodles, Blue Anchor Bar + Kitchen, Efes Gyro, and Buongiorno Gelateria.
