A revitalization effort that has been underway for over a decade will finally launch next year. The Journal will open its doors while adding retail and a new plaza to the neighborhood.

Kushner recently announced the new name of their development, which had previously been referred to as One Journal Square. The Journal is slated to begin pre-leasing in early 2025, marking the end of a long process to redevelop the property, including lawsuits and multiple redesigns.

Kushner has selected Manhattan-based The Marketing Directors as The Journal’s exclusive marketing and leasing agent, which features two 64-story towers next to the Journal Square PATH station.

“The Journal represents an exciting new chapter for Journal Square and Jersey City, bringing Kushner’s extraordinary vision for elevated city living to life,” said Jacqueline Urgo, president of The Marketing Directors. “We look forward to introducing prospective residents to the remarkable lifestyle, amenities, and connectivity this development offers. It’s a true testament to Jersey City’s growth, and we’re confident it will resonate with the community.”

Designed by the global architectural firm Woods Bagot, the nearly $1 billion development spans over two million square feet and includes 1,723 rental residences and 45,000 square feet of amenities.

Target has leased the project’s 40,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, although Kushner has not announced a potential opening date for the store yet.

Amenities for residents of The Journal include an Olympic-size indoor pool, a rooftop terrace with an outdoor pool, a whirlpool spa, sauna, and steam rooms. Other perks include a bowling alley, golf simulators, and multiple lounges.

The property will also feature dedicated co-working spaces, a chef’s kitchen, and a children’s club, while a state-of-the-art fitness center will offer yoga and spin rooms, a full-size indoor basketball court, a rock-climbing wall, and squash courts.

The Journal will also create a new public plaza on John F. Kennedy Boulevard, covering about an acre and featuring landscaping and seating areas.
