A residential project that has been in the works since 2020 has officially begun construction following a redesign earlier this year.
Just about three years ago, a new residential proposal emerged at several lots along 179 Academy Street. The vision came courtesy Titanium Realty Group, the company behind one of the many high-rises that has popped up near Journal Square at 413 Summit Avenue.
The development seemed to languish but re-emerged earlier this year, and changes to the proposal were greenlit and approved by Jersey City’s Planning Board in April. Titanium Realty Group GEO Diego Hodara recently confirmed in a social media post that the project has begun construction.
The revamped plans were drawn up by Queens-based Quatela Architects and call for a development that rises six stories and 64 feet. The 50 residential units at the development break down as 18 studios, 28 one-bedrooms, and four two-bedroom units.
No affordable housing or vehicle parking is included in the project, but a bicycle room with space for 26 bikes will be featured on the ground floor. The biggest change to the development involves facade architectural details that will now consist of red brick in lieu of cement panels and break metal.
Other planned features at 179 Academy Street include a rooftop space that includes both indoor and outdoor areas sporting a gym, grills, and more. An estimated timeline for completion of the project has not been announced.
Titanium Realty Group has invested heavily in developments in and around the burgeoning Journal Square neighborhood, playing in part in major endeavors including a recently topped out tower a 425 Summit Avenue. The company has also completed other significant developments at 345 Baldwin Street and 39 High Street, among others.
