A massive effort to further revitalize former brownfields in Perth Amboy is officially underway as a new logistics park is expected to create about 2,000 jobs for the region.
Bridge Industrial recently held a groundbreaking for their BridgePort II development, which will span a whopping 1,043,600 square feet and redevelop a large property in the shadow of the Outerbridge Crossing. Dignitaries including Perth Amboy Mayor Helmin Caba, City Council members, and the Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency joined Bridge Industrial at the ceremony.
“Our ongoing partnership with the city resulted in a seamless approvals process, and we look forward to working alongside Mayor Caba and the City to bolster the local economy, showcase the region’s talented workforce, and create new job opportunities,” said Jeff Milanaik, Partner, Northeast Region, at Bridge Industrial.
The new development follows the company’s completion of BridgePort I, a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution park. BridgePort II is expected to create 500 construction jobs in addition to approximately 1,500 projected new jobs from prospective tenants.
BridgePort II will span 73 acres and be comprised of two state-of-the-art logistics facilities. Building A will feature 36-foot clear heights, 48 dock spaces, 121 spaces for trailer storage, 125 total parking spaces, two drive-in doors, and 8,184 square feet of dedicated office space, while Building B will feature 40-foot clear heights, 168 dock spaces, 181 trailer storage spaces, 368 total parking spaces, four drive-in doors, and 24,120 square feet of offices.
Through a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement, the project is expected to generate $2.9 million annually in gross taxes for Perth Amboy. BridgePort II is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2024.
The development is strategically situated directly off Exit 10 of Interstate 95, which provides easy access to the New Jersey Turnpike and should minimize impact on the city’s roads and the local community.
